How to Speak with Demons: Some Practical Advice

How to speak with demons

In my travels stalking the Interwebs ( if that term offends you, what in the hell are you doing reading my page?), I am often asked the question “How do I communicate with Demons, Angels, or Aunt Penelope’s Aardvark spirit guide ?” . These queries come up over and over, by those new to the practice, and at times, in hushed tones and with baited breath, during personal messages from those who have been at it for years. This being the case, I’ve decided to give a bit of advice to help the everyday spirit worker “part the veil”.

Let me make myself clear about what I am talking about, ( “Cough” ) Calling Spirits, Casting out and Bringing in Demons, Binding Elementals and having High tea with Angels. Yes, gentle reader, that is what I’m writing about here.Because we live in a multi-dimensional reality, interactions with the spirit world are a natural part of the human experience. It happens every day, if you know it or not. Encounters with spirit entities can either be positive and uplifting or negative and detrimental. No, I’m not talking about Angels and Demons as a classification here when it comes to Positive or Negative:

“Kirsty Cotton: Who are you?”
“Pinhead: Explorers in the further regions of experience. Demons to some.Angels to others.”-Hellraiser, Clive Barker

The only classification that truly matters here is that the spirit has no material body (of its own) and can be called to the practitioner in a way that can be reproduced with some modicum of reliability. This can include such entities as Thought Forms and Elementals, Demons and Angels,Seelie and Unseelie Fey, Gods and Goddesses from around the world. The Art of the Karcist mainly deals with those entities that have never been mortal, or have been dead and changed for so many years (in the case of Gods or Loa) that they no longer recall their mortal lives. The funny thing about such entities and their relationship with man is that until roughly a century ago, all mental illness was treated as a sign of spirit oppression or possession.

Today all signs of oppression and possession are treated as a sign of mental illness. Because the outward symptoms of spirit oppression or possession (anxiety, disorientation, fantasies, delusions, etc.) are similar to textbook symptoms of neurosis and psychosis, the prevailing tendency is to diagnose such cases as paranoia, hysteria or schizophrenia. What I am proposing here is that the “spirit world” itself could affect the Physical and Mental body through the subconscious emotional connection with an individual Spirit. The resulting subconscious emotions will continually surface as dreams, visions, and flashes of images. Because these subconscious emotions stem from a natural interaction with the spirit world, they could never be totally repressed, but instead continually redirected into either positive or negative actions. When you look at the Preparation and Ritual that most of us go through to summon an entity to us: the states of paranoia (feelings of persecution and an exaggerated sense of self-importance), hysteria (exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion or excitement) and schizophrenia (hallucinations (most reported are hearing voices), delusions (often bizarre or persecutory in nature), and disorganized thinking and speech.)You can see that we are simply driving ourselves Mad for a short time to Evoke or Invoke an Entity.

So, my advice to you is simple, if your emotional state is directed towards purposely influencing the environment around you, a Spirit is called. Every individual’s mental state is accompanied by certain vibrations that resonate on the energetic and spiritual planes. The plane of physical vibrations arising from the human brain and nervous system has energetic counterparts that manifest through the vibrational resonance of the entity. To put it simply, we are filled with spirits, bacteria and the biospheric network of DNA based life has consciousness on a molecular level. “What the fuck are you blabbing about, Vincent?” I know, it sounds Mad, but that’s the point, calling an entity to you is a sort of controlled madness that we as practitioners must learn to turn on and off at the drop of a hat.

The effect of an individual’s influence over a spirit is initiated through the energetic principle of “induction,” which manifests on all three planes (physical, energetic, and emotional). The principle of induction is described as “that inherent quality or attribute of energy by which the manifestation of energy tends to reproduce itself in a second object by setting up a corresponding vibration, even though there is no direct contact between the two objects.” For example, the vibrational manifestation of heat generated in one object tends to induce the vibrational response of heat in other objects that are within its range of induction. Likewise, the vibrational resonance of light striking another object can render it capable of additionally radiating light; and through induction, a magnet can induce magnetism into a piece of steel suspended nearby, even though the two objects do not actually touch each other. In the same way, every form or manifestation of energy, including the thoughts and emotions of we hairless apes, can and do “Evoke” spirits or even cause change in other people. Take, for example, two people sitting in a room. If the first individual has covertly suppressed feelings of hostility and the second person is sensitive to the energetic resonances of anger, then the second person will begin to feel uncomfortable or suddenly act out the first person’s suppressed hostility (even if the hostility is not consciously being directed towards the second individual).

The emotional discomfort or the sudden acting out of emotional release then seems to happen for “no apparent reason. “This suppressed emotional state is like honey wine to a spirit with the same vibrational resonance, like attracts like and all that jazz. If the Practitioner can generate the same emotional state as, say Loki, then suppress this state and maintain it while creating an atmosphere of paranoia, hysteria and schizophrenia, the God of Strife and Mischief could not help himself, if just to see what felt so “right” about that particular time and place. When a spirit or entity approaches an individual, it will use whatever existing core images that it can find to gain access into the human’s mind and physical space. It will choose the strongest natural image available (sexual fantasies, anger and rage grief and resentment, fears and phobias, depression and despair, obsession and compulsion, happiness and joy, etc.).If we control what those images and emotions are at the time of summoning, we can have that much more influence over the end result of the ritual. More so, if we can recall that emotional state and invest it into an Item or even a hand sign (Mudra, for you Yoginis out there) the process of calling and summoning becomes accessible outside of the Ritual Chamber. Or, conversely,  if we empty ourselves of all emotion and become a still and clean cup for the spirit to reside in for a time, the process of Invocation or becoming ridden is made much more accessible.

I do hope this Advice is found helpful by all of you, and that you find just what you are looking for in the ritual chamber of life. Stay Gold Everyone.

Horror Magick part 2: The Evocation of Pinhead

Hell Priest

“Its voice, unlike that of its companion, was light and breathy-the voice of an excited girl. Every inch of its head had been tattooed with an intricate grid, and at every intersection of horizontal and vertical axes a jeweled pin driven through to the bone. Its tongue was similarly decorated.”

— The Hellbound Heart, Clive Barker, ch. 1

As I’ve said in part one of this blog series,  In its current form, the horror film itself is the perfect breeding ground for creation of ready-made thought forms and egregores preprogrammed with abilities and skills that would put any Goetic King to shame. Putting it another way, monsters are not just for horror films anymore, so why waste such a valuable resource? So, I’ve decided to put it to the test and write an Evocation of Pinhead, the main hell priest and cenobite of Clive Barker’s novella “The Hellbound Heart”. Made famous by the Hellraiser movies, It was originally published in November 1986 by Dark Harvest in the third volume of their Night Visions anthology series, but was re-released as a stand-alone title by Harper Collins in 1988 after the success of the movie, along with an audiobook recorded by Clive Barker and published by Audioworks.

This Mythos of Pop Culture has endured to this day and has quite a strong fan base, with comics and tee-shirts, new stories and another sequel in the works. I felt he was the perfect Horror egregore for my first test of the system. He is also talkative, and this is quite a good thing as I believe a calling of Jason or Michael would be much harder to work out when it came to the evocation proper, and no one wants Freddy in the house for any length of time, at least not the same place that you wish to sleep.

For those of you who haven’t read the story or have not seen the film (the 1% of those who read my blog ),The story focuses on a Puzzle Box (Lament Configuration) and the horror it wreaks on a family which is unfortunate enough to come across it. Pinhead (his real name was Elliott Spencer) was born Elliot Spencer and opened the Lament Configuration after becoming disenchanted with human life from his service in World War I. Like the other Cenobites, he lost all memory of his human identity following the transformation and serves the deity Leviathan by abducting others who solve the Lament Configuration and torture them in a labyrinth realm called Hell. In the Hellbound Heart we find Frank, a nihilist and selfish moral degenerate who has participated in every hedonistic pleasure, extreme experience and sexual perversion known to man, each time seeking a greater pleasure higher than the last. Jaded, Frank hears rumor of a mysterious puzzle box (the Lament Configuration) which opens the gateway to a realm of unfathomable carnal pleasures. Frank tracks down the current owner of the box in Düsseldorf and obtains it through performing “small favors”.

Elliott

Frank manages to solve the puzzle while squatting in the attic of his grandparents’ house, where he has set up an elaborate display of flowers and a jug of his own urine. A gateway opens and appearing from it are the Cenobites, Lead by Pinhead, a race of distorted creatures who practice an extreme form of sadomasochism centered around agonizing torture and mutilation. They see little difference between extreme pleasure and extreme pain and drag Frank, willingly at first, into their extradimensional realm, where Frank begins what he realizes too late will be an eternity of torture.

If you wish to read the whole story, you can find it here http://www.amazon.com/The-Hellbound-Heart-A-Novel/dp/0061452882, and if you plan on repeating this experiment, I suggest you do read it, at the very least. On to the Ritual…

Note: while this Ritual is called “The Evocation of Pinhead” the Hell Priest despises that name so it will only be used once in the Evocation (see below) if you succeed in this rite, I would suggest you refer to him as Hell Priest or Cenobite. You may also call him Mr. Spencer, but he will be quick to inform you that is no longer his name.

Supplies:

Myrrh and Musk (Tears and Passion) Charcoal and an Incense burner

A Low table that you can sit in front of cross legged ( Lotus or Half is preferred, indian or tailor style will work if you can’t) Have the table face North.

A bunch of flowers (some wilted, some fresh) a jug, jar or cup of your own urine. Place the flower to the left of the burner, the jug to the right.

6 candles, two burning behind you, two on either side of you, two placed on the table behind the burner.

Something to cause you pain and draw blood with (Razor, Knife, Pin)

A Chain and a Hook, placed before the burner.

A Small Wooden Box with six sides, you will hold this throughout the ritual

I started with a calling of Leviathan while doing so I visualized a large Sea serpent coiling about me, creating a circle.Did a Microcosmic Orbit 6 times and pushed my Aura out from my Tan T’ien to the edge of the serpent.

I then Began this Evocation:

“I call to thee, Elliott Spencer, Known to the Worms of this realm as Pinhead. I conjure thee, Great and Terrible Hell Priest, in the name of your creator, Clive Barker, to walk into this circle of Leviathan and appear before me. Heed my call and come now, oh Master of Pain, Cenobite, reside in the Pit no longer (at this time, stroke the box with your fingers, turn it over and over in your hands and see it in your mind’s eye start to glow and open). Hell Priest, I have completed  the task you have set before me, the puzzle is solved, pleasure and pain indivisible shall be the state of this chamber. I wish to see the sights you have to show me. ( Then say the following call six times, once for each side of the box)”Cenobite come to me, Hell Priest come to me, Elliott Spencer come to me, in the name of Clive Barker, your creator, I call to thee.”

If he has not shown himself after the six calls, you may do another set of six, but I would suggest no more then that. When and if he comes, be very respectful as if dealing with the most arrogant of kings. I had a conversation with him about the nature of Pleasure and Pain, and I suggest that you do the same to gain insight into this eggagore before asking for anything from him. I then Cut myself with my straight razor and offered some of my blood into the burner for payment, I strongly suggest you do the same with whatever implement you have at hand, for in the lore the cenobites never leave without drawing blood and causing pain first. I then asked him politely to return to hell, he seemed satisfied and quickly did so( interesting note, he flickered in and when he left he blinked out, like a cathode tube television turning off.)

I then thanked Leviathan, dissolved the circle, and pulled my Aura back into my Tan T’ien, cycled the Microcosmic orbit and stored the Qi in my Tan T’ien. I accept no responsibility for the mental state of anyone who tries to repeat this ritual. This stuff is experimental and I have no idea what the side effects may be, if any. If you do so, my only suggestion is that you find out all you can about the lore of the Hellraiser sub-universe. Watch all of the Movies (even the bad ones), read the Hellbound Heart and the Scarlet Gospels as well for a deeper understanding of what you are dealing with, before you proceed.

Demon Study: Amon

Amon

Amon (also Aamon and Nahum),It is said that he is a Marquis of Hell who governs forty infernal legions. Often  confused with the Egyptian god Amun, the name can also be traced to Baal Hammon, or properly Baʿal Hammon, who was the chief god of Carthage. He was a weather god considered responsible for the fertility of vegetation and esteemed as King of the Gods. He was depicted as a bearded older man with curling ram’s horns. Some Evokers I’ve spoken to believe him to be the very same spirit as the great Egyptian god Amon-Ra, and whether this demon is indeed an ancient god or not is up for debate, but in my experience with him the subject didn’t come up.

In the “Pseudomonarchia daemonum” Johann Wier wrote:

“Amon, or Aamon, is a great and mightie marques, and commeth abroad in the likenes of a woolfe, having a serpents taile, [vomiting] flames of fier; when he putteth on the shape of a man, he sheweth out dogs teeth, and a great head like to a mightie [night hawk]; he is the strongest prince of all other, and understandeth of all things past and to come, he procureth favor, and reconcileth both freends and foes, and ruleth fourtie legions of divels.”

And then we have S. L. MacGregor Mathers description in the Goetia:

“The Seventh Spirit is Amon. He is a Marquis great in power, and most stern. He appeareth like a Wolf with a Serpent’s tail, vomiting out of his mouth flames of fire; but at the command of the Magician he putteth on the shape of a Man with Dog’s teeth beset in a head like a Raven; or else like a Man with a Raven’s head (simply). He telleth all things Past and to Come. He procureth feuds and reconcileth controversies between friends. He governeth 40 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this which is to be worn as aforesaid, etc.”

Amon came quite quickly and was very easy to talk to. He appeared to me as a Medium sized Gray Dog with an odd colorized flame shooting from his mouth every now and again. I’ve spoken with him twice and asked questions about my future and the nature of the Tao and Luciferianism. Some of the answers were quite personal but far in advance on the timeline about my life (called in 2012, gave information about an event that “could” happen 20 years from now). Gave consul on my studies and how they could affect me in the future, one statement I found quite telling “Avoid the study of too much Kabbalah or the curse of YHVH will compel you to tread that path for the rest of your days. That is an avenue of deep work that you could follow, but you would be quite unhappy doing so. ”

His Demonic Enn is: Avage Secore Amon Ninan

I’ve called him to both the Mirror and visual appearance, made offerings of honey and wine mixed that he seemed to quite enjoy.

Stay Gold folks, till next time.

Samigina's Goetic Seal
Samigina’s Goetic Seal

The Fourth Spirit is Samigina, a Great Marquis. He appeareth in the form of a little Horse or Ass, and then into Human shape doth he change himself at the request of the Master. He speaketh with a hoarse voice. He ruleth over 30 Legions of Inferiors. He teaches all Liberal Sciences, and giveth account of Dead Souls that died in sin. And his Seal is this, which is to be worn before the Magician when he is Invocator, etc.

Pseudomonarchia daemonum – Johann Wier (1583) (quoted)

Gamigin is a great marquesse, and is seene in the forme of a little horsse, when he taketh humane shape he speaketh with a hoarse voice, disputing of all liberall sciences; he bringeth also to passe, that the soules, which are drowned in the sea, or which dwell in purgatorie (which is called Cartagra, that is, affliction of soules) shall take aierie bodies, and evidentlie appeare and answer to interrogatories at the conjurors commandement; he tarrieth with the exorcist, untill he have accomplished his desire, and hath thirtie legions under him.

I’ve worked with this spirit numerous times, and he is always quick to come. External Necromancy and Graveyard workings seem to be his forte. My first calling was quite interesting, as it seemed that I caught him at rest, and he had to take a moment to compose himself. He appeared in the skrying stone on a green field of grass sitting in a wicker chair. A Purple Mountain was to the left of him, and a wooden house with a stable attached to his right.  His appearance was as a Man with a horse head, and from time to time he would reach down from his chair an eat a bit of grass.Very calm and peaceful, in no hurry. We spoke for sometime on the matters of the dead and those who passed on. I asked for a Samhain ritual to call the spirits of loved ones for a Lodge I was leading at the time. He gave me instruction in this, the rite included his calling by the whole group and myself, as well as dream work upon the very same night. When called with the Lodge, he came with no fuss and each member could see him the same way that I have in the past. The rite was quite a success and all received communication with an ancestor. I’ve also called him with questions about past lives, and have received some interesting information about what could have been what I was up to in the 1800’s.I have no idea of the validity of this information and, I have not explored this aspect any further. At times he likes to wear a Smoking Jacket, other times he appeared nude. Offerings of Tobacco and fresh cut grass please him.  His Enn: Esta Ta Et Tasa Gamigin

Demon Study: Vassago

Vassago2Vassago (also Vasago, Usagoo) is the third Goetic demon described in the Lesser Key of Solomon (including Thomas Rudd’s variant)

Vassago's Goetic Seal
Vassago’s Goetic Seal

Goetia – S. L. MacGregor Mathers (1904) (quoted)

The Third Spirit is a Mighty Prince, being of the same nature as Agares. He is called Vassago. This Spirit is of a Good Nature, and his office is to declare things Past and to Come, and to discover all things Hid or Lost. And he governeth 26 Legions of Spirits, and this is his Seal.

He is one of the few spirits found in the Lesser Key of Solomon but not in Johann Weyer’s Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. Vassago is mentioned in the Book of the Office of Spirits as Usagoo, appearing as an angel, “just and true in all his doings,” with the powers of inciting the love of women and revealing hidden treasures, in addition to ruling twenty spirits. Sloane MS 3824 mentions Vassago in invocations to summon spirits that guard treasure, and in the “Experiment of Vassago” and the “Experiment of Agares,” both intended to capture the named spirits in crystals. According to Rudd, Vassago is opposed by the Shemhamphorasch angel Sitael.I’ve found Vassago to be quite friendly and helpful, he is sometimes called the “Prince of Prophecy” because of his ability to see into the past and future as well as find lost and hidden things.I’ve called him a number of times, and within each ritual he has appeared as something different.A bit of a prankster , he even appears in the form of other demons, most notably in the demonic form of Agares – an old man riding a crocodile. To me he has shown himself as a short, fat ,white man in a white linen suit, holding a bone wand or scepter; a goat-headed woman with a man’s voice and as Agares but all in shades of white, even the crocodile.Vassago

He was Jolly each time, but quite bored sounding, as if wanting to chat. During one calling, Tarot cards appeared floating around his head, and then one by one he sent them shooting into my eyes. When I exclaimed in surprise, he told me it was just a gift to help my second sight, freely given. He can help with all forms of Divination, and can make the cards quite clear if you whisper his name before the shuffle. If he gives you advice about the Future be warned, he tends to give choices about what could happen if you move forward with A.B. or C. Every Time I’ve spoken to him, Theological debate has sprung up around me for hour or so after. This could be a coincidence, but I don’t believe in those and I think he likes the conversation. All he has every asked for was that his name to be spoken aloud when divination is being performed. He responds well to Dream work and his Demonic Enn works well for this.

His Enn is; Keyan Vefa Jedan Tasa Vassago

More details about enns themselves are to found in demonolator books like The Complete Book of Demonolatry by S.Connolly.

Evocation, Conjuration and the Art of the Karcist=Part 1

callll“Eliza, Montjohn,” said Mayor Rudgutter as they walked, “this is Brother Sanchem Vansetty, one of our most able karcists.” Rescue and Stem-Fulcher nodded greetings. Vansetty ignored them…. Vansetty was pulling chalk and pastels of various colours from his pockets. He pulled what looked like a watch from his fob pocket and opened it. Its face was divided into innumerable complicated sections. It had seven hands of various lengths. “Got to take account of the variables, Mayor,” Vansetty murmured, studying the thing’s intricate working. He seemed to be talking more to himself than to Rudgutter or anyone else. “Outlook for today’s pretty grotty…High-pressure front moving in the aether. Could push powerstorms anywhere from the abyss through null-space up. Fucking poxy outlook on the borderlands as well. Hmmm…” Vansetty scrawled some calculations on the back of a notebook. “Right,” he snapped, and looked up at the three ministers. He began to scribble intricate, stylized markings on thick pieces of paper, tearing out each one as it was finished and handing it to Stem-Fulcher, Rudgutter, Rescue, and finally for himself. “Whack those over your hearts,” he said cursorily, stuffing his into his shirt. “Symbol facing out.”

According to research funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, conducted by Dr. Erika Bourguignon and Dr. Felicital Goodman, behavioral patterns that are commonly labeled by modem psychiatry as psychotic (seeing visions, hearing voices and having contact with the dead) are not only considered normal, but are an integral
part of the religious practices of 96 percent of the 486 Tribal societies that were studied. Their research concluded that, in most “Primitive” societies, individuals who are not capable of altering their consciousness to perceive energetic and spiritual states of altered reality were considered psychologically” defective.” Additional research maintained that in ritual trance there is a predetermined beginning and ending to each experience of an altered state of consciousness. Afterwards, the individual returns to an ordinary state of consciousness (his or her self-aware ego still intact) with a sense of purpose and meaning about the altered experience. Psychosis is differentiated from this type of altered state in that psychosis is an unpredictable and unwanted state of disoriented madness that is void of meaning in ordinary reality, while ritual trance is an intentionally heightened state of consciousness brought about by carefully performed rituals that are designed to maintain the integrity of the individual.

Knowing this, it could give us a Unified Evocation Theory:

“Thus any Spirit, from all Traditions Past, Present and to come; may and could be summoned by a prescribed Golden Mean of psychotic states found as common in all cultures that practice evocation.Furthermore, by only changing the cultural framework (Names of God/Goddess/Spirit, Tools used, Type of offering/ sacrifice given, etx…) said Spirit will come again and again, needing less energy, time and effort for each consecutive working.”-V.A.P.

I’m not trying to rebuild the wheel here, just pointing out that when one individual’s mind and emotional state is directed towards purposely influencing the environment around him or her,a Spirit is called. Every individual’s
mental state is accompanied by certain vibrations that resonate on the energetic and spiritual planes. The plane of physical vibrations arising from the human brain and nervous system has energetic counterparts that manifest through the vibrational resonance of the entity . To put it simply, we are filled with spirits, bacteria and the biospheric network of DNA based life has consciousness on a molecular level.

Spirits

To quote Lon Milo Duquette’s Alter ego Rabbi Lamed Ben Clifford “It’s all in your Head, but you have no Idea how big your Head is”.-The Chicken Qabalah of Rabbi Lamed Ben Clifford
Likewise, the vibrational resonance of light striking

More So, If we can recall that emotional state and invest it into an Item, or even a hand sign ( Mudra, for you Yoginis out there)the process of calling and summoning becomes accessible outside of the Ritual Chamber.

Just some food for thought, these theories and ideas are my own and no Elder God was harmed in the writing of this Blog post.Stay Gold….

Demon Study: Agares

AgeusAgares, my old friend, it is time that I write about thee.I have a very strong relationship with this spirit and he has helped me out in a number of projects dealing with languages and writing.True to the old Lore,he has always appeared to me as a kindly old man on the back of a crocodile, sometime with a hawk, but at others with a snake in his hand.It is said by some praticinerions that he can appear as a woman, but that has never been the case in my experience. The Lore states:

The Second Spirit is a Duke called Agreas, or Agares. He is under the Power of the East, and cometh up in the form of an old fair Man, riding upon a Crocodile, carrying a Goshawk upon his fist, and yet mild in appearance. He maketh them to run that stand still, and bringeth back runaways. He teaches all Languages or Tongues presently. He hath power also to destroy Dignities both Spiritual and Temporal, and causeth Earthquakes. He was of the Order of Virtues. He hath under his government 31 Legions of Spirits. And this is his Seal or Character which thou shalt wear as a Lamen before thee.

I’ve asked for help and advice on Sanskrit, Hebrew, Spanish, Enochian, and with my work on the demonolator enns (Enns are sentences of invitation, admiration or requests for protection for particular demons, the language comes from the private grimoires of demonolator Alexander Willit in 16th century.). If called often, he will remind you to work harder on the languages he helps you with, and can get quite cross if you “give up” on one and try to move on to something much more challenging, as I did working from Spanish to Sanskrit.I have a small command of each tongue, but would have had a much greater grasp of word meaning and syntax if I hadn’t jumped from one to the other in such a way. He comes quickly and is easy to work with, at times the kind but disapproving school teacher, this spirit wants you to do the work to gain what you are after. At one time when I was working with Enochian heavaly, he sat down and drew a sigil on a piece of parchment. Agares told me that if I draw this sigil on the top of the page I was using to study with, it would increase comprehension dramatically. Needless to say, I still use this sigil and it still serves me well in this capacity. In conversations I’ve had with him it was relayed to me that he is as old as the moon and was on the ground when the pyramids were being built.Hinted that he was a contemporary of Horus.  I’ve been given the name of the crocodile spirit that he rides, but am not at liberty to reveal that name (I will ask him if I can publish the name at a later date). I have bought Cups of Coffee and books on Language in his honor and have left them open on tables in schools for services rendered. His Enn: Rean Ganen Ayar Da Agares
